Profile
Built on a hillside, overlooking the 91 Freeway, the theatre opened as the Festival 8 in 1992. Designed by Mann, but purchased by Edwards Theatres before opening, the complex was almost identical to the earlier Mann Rancho Niguel 8 build, in Laguna Niguel. The venue had two 388 seat auditoriums in the rear of the building and six modest sized auditoriums situated on either side of the standard two story lobby (unlike the Rancho Niguel 8’s island stand, the Festival 8 had a rear wall concession stand). The original venue also had 70mm capability in the two large auditoriums, but there is only evidence of one 70mm print ever being shown at the Festival 8.
With little competition, in a burgeoning community, the Festival 8 quickly found need for expansion and six stadium seating auditoriums were added to the complex, in a near seamless fashion, by the late 90’s. Following the expansion, the Festival 8 became commonly referred to as the Anaheim Hills 14.
