Profile
Built across the street from California State University Fullerton and named after the school’s teams, the Titan had a brief run, serving a predominantly student based cliental.
Designed in the “googie” style of architecture, the Titan had a 50’s/60’s futuristic, “space age” looking exterior; featuring a cantilevered folded plate roof, tropical landscaping, and a bold use of glass. The interior was somewhat bland, with a stone wall lining the rear of a modest earth tone lobby. The single auditorium sat roughly 800 and featured a small stage.
While highly regarded for it’s unique architecture, the Titan proved less successful as a cinema and was closed by General Cinemas in 1976. Roughly a year later, the venue was picked up by Hope University (a religious college) and converted in to a conference/performance hall. Aside from the screen being removed, the Titan has remained relatively intact up to the present day.
