Profile

The Wilshire was built in 1927, serving as a prohibition era bar, apartment complex, hotel, and community swimming pool at various times. In 1947, the building was remodeled in to a cinema, with the sloped pool being utilized for the auditorium.

The theatre featured first run booking, until the 1970’s, when the venue turned to art/revival/foreign programming. The Wilshire wrapped up it’s life as a cinema in the 1980’s, serving as a Spanish language theatre. The building was razed in 1991 and an apartment complex was built on the site shortly thereafter.
