Profile

The Village Center 6 was one of three theatres opened by Edwards on Thanksgiving weekend of 1985. Featuring a spacious lobby, six generously sized auditoriums (the two largest seating 500), and top of the line amenities, the venue offered a significant upgrade from the area’s only other cinema; the small and decrepit Stanton Theatre. Similar to other Edwards’ builds of the time, the Village Center had 70 mm capability in the large auditoriums, second floor restroom facilities, and a projection booth viewing window. Also rather stock for Edwards of the day, the venue had a red and white color scheme.

With no discernable competition, the Village Center enjoyed considerable success throughout the 80’s. However, by the mid 90’s, the theatre had developed a reputation for attracting a less desirable element, culminating in the shooting of a teenager in 1994. Coupled with declining facility upkeep, the theatre’s ever worsening reputation resulted in a sharp downturn in attendance. By the new millennium, the Village Center 6 had become one of Edwards’ under performing sites, leading to the theatre’s closure in 2000. A few years later, the building was gutted and converted in to an auto parts store.
